90s Fashion Trends that are Way Better Now

The 90s has a certain charm about it. You look back at photos of yourself and think, "What in the world was going on in my closet?" But honestly, I am so glad I was a 90s kid. I wouldn't trade Full House, Lisa Frank or Keds for anything. Speaking of Full House, have you seen the full trailer for Fuller House!? Can't. Wait.

You may have noticed that certain 90s trends have crept into the 21st century. I've been witnessing some of these trends since my college days (sorority/fraternity mixers often embraced the 90s theme), but they're making serious comebacks, and for some reason, they look better this time around. I don't know if photo quality is just better now or if we've actually perfected these trends, but they're back, and my 90s kid heart is extremely content.

Let's take a look at some of these trends that have made it back into our closets and everyday routines.

1. Hair half up, half down.

Not everyone has embraced this trend yet. I vividly remember a guy friend of mine freaking out when he saw a girl with this hairstyle. When done well, though, it looks insanely cute, in my opinion. I think when I did my hair like this in the 90s, I threw an atrocious headband on with it. Leave the headband alone, my friends.

2. Overalls

I won't lie to y'all. I haven't embraced overalls yet. This is probably because I look young, and in my mind they make me look younger (read: in my mind). However, I have seen so many pairs of adorable overalls recently, and I am thiiiiiiisssss close to purchasing some for myself. Y'all will be the first to know when I do. I am seriously in love with the overalls pictured above. They look like pajama overalls!

3. The front tuck

Once again, I thought this look would stay in the 90s. But alas, it has made its way back into the fashion scene, and it's better than ever. Whether it's a casual tee, a blouse, or a shirt + skirt combo, you can make this look work. I guarantee it.

4. High-top sneakers

This is another trend I haven't embraced just yet, but thanks to some serious inspiration from my friend Mattie of Fit is Chic, I just may add some high tops to my wardrobe very soon. She is the #queen of dressing them up (yes, you read that right) and dressing them down, ensuring anyone can pull them off.

5. High-waisted jeans

We've also seen these in recent years, and I feel like more people are jumping on the bandwagon now. Again, I don't know how we're making them work so much better now than we used to, but these babes are back, and they are better than ever. Love these Levi's pictured above (ahem, with a front tuck)!

6. Shirt around the waist

Let me just say, I am so glad this is a thing again. When I visited my sister in New York last summer, I donned a shirt around my waist for fashion and logistical reasons. It was so hot outside (shirt around the waist) and when we went into museums, I was cold (wore the shirt over my dress). So much logic!

Did I miss anything? What are your favorite 90s trends that have made a comeback?
