Fall essentials for your home and closet
Fall is my favorite season of the year, and I think many people would agree with me. I love winter and the holidays, as well, but I am 100 percent over winter after New Years. I firmly believe it shouldn't be cold after January 1. Luckily I live in San Francisco now and will be spoiled with wonderful weather year round. Not mad about it.
There's something about the air, scent and feel of fall that make me so happy. I don't mind that days seem shorter and temperatures drop; all the more reason to cozy up with a cup of coffee, a book and my favorite fall candle. I am a big supporter of "fall-ing" out your home to make the season feel extra comfortable, so I'm going to share some of my fall essentials for around the house and your closet.
1. Fresh fall floral

Nothing screams fall like reds, oranges, yellows and greens mixed together! I love this mixture of roses, lilies and greenery. These are on our dining table and instantly brighten the room.
2. A new book (or two, or three...)

San Francisco is filled with indie book shops (City Lights Bookstore seen here), and that makes my bibliophile heart extremely content. Fall is a very popular time for new releases (think: cold nights with coffee and a blanket, as mentioned above), so head to your local bookstore and stock up on some new reads for fall. (New releases post coming soon!) Also, thanks to my husband for being totally cool with dropping into bookstores after dinner on Saturday nights.
3. An oversized denim shirt

I am all about oversized denim shirts right now. You can pair them with pants, dresses, skirt+shirt combo, whatever. One of my favorite looks for daytime is this simple combination of my denim shirt, black jeans, a v-neck T-shirt and my Tom's booties. I got mine at Urban Outfitters last season, but these bad boys can be found anywhere.
4. Fall dining decor

We got these plates from Crate & Barrel for 5.95 each. 5.95! I couldn't get over that price! What I love the most about these plates is their versatality. All I need to do is change up the centerpiece and I can have these on the table year-round. I think we need to have a dinner party very soon.
5. A good cup of coffee

ALERT: Today is national coffee day. (As if we need a reason to celebrate.) I love craft coffee, and I will never pass on an opportunity to try a new craft coffee shop. I tried this latte and blueberry muffin at Epicenter Cafe, which just happens to be half a block away from my apartment (lucky me!). No matter what you prefer, whether you have a plethora of coffee shops at your disposal or you make your coffee at home, warm coffee is a must during fall.
6. Pumpkins and pumpkin spice

Let me be honest with you. I am not a huge pumpkin spice advocate. I actually dislike most things pumpkin spice, and I highly dislike pumpkin-flavored food and drinks (sorry, not a fan of pumpkin spice lattes!). However, what is fall without something pumpkin-related!? I got this adorable twig pumpkin at Crate & Barrel and found this amazing pumpkin peppercorn candle at Whole Foods. As I mentioned, I don't typically love pumpkin flavored (or scented) items, but for some reason this candle's got me!
7. A [faux] fur vest

One of my favorite things about this vest is that I can wear it with anything. I got it specifically because I could wear it with white, brown and black. Adding a faux fur vest to your look is a great way to give it a little something extra during the cool months of the year. This vest is from one of my favorite Dallas boutiques, Apricot Lane. AL is owned by two of my sorority sisters and their parents. You should definitely follow their Instagram for new arrivals and new fashion trends.
8. A fall wreath.

I know most people put wreaths on the outside of their doors, but I am a little selfish and I want to enjoy this adorable fall wreath I bought at Target. (Wanted to be 100 percent transparent and let you know I did not make this wreath--maybe next year when I'm not moving across the county right before fall!) This is the perfect spot for our wreath so it can be enjoyed from the living room, dining area and the kitchen.
Now that you've heard my must-haves for fall, what are some of your fall essentials?
